Link Building Experiment No. 1

For the month of January, I am building links to three niche sites, which were built back in October 2011. After this month-long link building effort, I will put these sites into autopilot. So far, I’m making some money via Google Adsense from this sites. But nothing to boast about.

So, I will try a particular link building strategy for one keyword in one of my niche sites. If this works, I will replicate it with other keywords. To maximize efficiency and effectiveness, I will also outsource some of the linkbuilding efforts via Fiverr.com. Details below.

At present, my niche site’s rank for the keyword is 92, according to Scroogle Scraper. That’s Page 10 of Google. The site might not be existent for all I care. So, I will undergo a 2-week linkbuilding process, which will generate less than 200 links pointing to the site. The breakdown of the linkbuilding strategy is as follows:

January Plans for Niche Site Project

With the coming of 2012, I plan to step up my niche site projects. 2011 was good to me in terms of my online projects. But it could have been better. For 2011, my Adsense income all-time high was a little over $300. It isn’t a lot, but considering that my monthly Adsense income for the first half of 2011 was $30, it’s already a great deal of improvement!

Sadly, though, I wasn’t able to have that same level of income for the rest of 2011. The niche site responsible for the income boost suddenly dropped out of the rankings! No thanks to you, big ugly Google Panda!

Thankfully, though I stumbled across Pat Flynn’s Backlinking Strategy that Works and Spencer Haws’ Niche Website Hub. These two blogs serve as my textbook and blueprint for the niche website business. That’s why in November, I started five new websites. These five sites are now boosting my Adsense income again. With additional backlinking done, this January, I hope to make more money online!

Five Major Lessons in 2011

I learned a lot of things related to niche websites in 2011. But I can point out five major lessons below:

Niche Keyword Research

Niche keyword research is perhaps one of the MOST important skills that any blogger and internet marketer should learn. It’s great to write great content and blog posts that would impact lots and lots of people in cyberspace. But if nobody finds out about your blog, then that would be sad, right?

You need Search Engine Optimization, which depends of a whole lot of factors. It’s good to remember though, that good SEO starts with niche keyword research.

So how do we begin researching niche keywords?

Spencer of NichePursuits.com has already written a great lesson on brainstorming keywords here. I don’t need to repeat what he said there. Just head over to that link and take important notes.

If you’re really, totally clueless where to begin, then I suggest writing down topics that relate to the following:

Fears and Frustrations. What do you fear? What are the things that your friends fear? Is it the financial meltdown? Spiders? Asking a girl out? Getting a job? Those fears and frustrations could lead you to some seed keywords that you could use for analysis.

Problems. As long as we’re alive, we’ll never run out of problems. Whether it’s about tweaking your computer, painting your wall, or opening a bank account. If you address problems, you’ll never run out of things to write about.

Passions. Lastly, what are you passionate about? Lots of people may share your passions–it could be a hobby, a desire to change the world, or to change oneself for the better. And if you write about your passions, you can go on and on and on without getting bored.
